Datehookup

Any alternative for DateHookup after it shut down?

Anyone familiar with the most popular dating hookup websites of the past 10 years will have heard of DateHookup.com before. There was a time when DateHookup ranked number 6 on the top 10 list of most visited dating service websites on the internet. At the height of their success, DateHookup was receiving more than 6 million organic visitors per month. About 3.5 million of these visitors were coming from the United States. What members particularly liked about DateHookup was the option to have a casual dating with other members. The term “casual dating” is code for hookup or casual encounter.

In 2002, an entrepreneur by the name of Dusty Weirich launched his startup company DateHookup. This was about the same time when another dating service “Plenty of Fish” was launched on the internet too. Members of DateHookup had the option to choose what they were looking for in a date. There were options to search for casual dating or people who were looking for marital partners. The people that just wanted a sexual encounter with no strings attached would choose the casual dating option. It wasn’t until later on that it became a website more based around casual encounters.

In 2012, a subsidiary called Match Group offered to buy DateHookup for an amount that was never disclosed to the public. The deal went through, which gave Match Group new ownership over the dating service. Match Group is a subsidiary of InterActiveCorp, which is the company responsible for Match.com and People Media. As you can see, they have a big interest in acquiring high valued dating websites. Unfortunately, their control of DateHookup brought about changes which were like the beginning of the end for the company.

Between 2012 and 2014, DateHookup went through a lot of different changes to its design and structure. Rather than give people the option to find marriage partners, the website was transformed into an even bigger hookup style dating service. There was a lot more emphasis put on finding casual encounters and hooking up easily with other members who were interested in sex only. The platform structure of DateHookup started to resemble a social media platform more than a dating platform. The longtime users of the website were not too happy about this.

DateHookup soon had more casual users than regular dating users. Arrangements for sex buddies and hookups were a common thing. People didn’t really interact with each other for a long period of time. The communication became just about sex and once that was done, members would move on to other people. This made other users looking for serious relationships to want to leave the website.

In 2015, complaints were made which stated that DateHookup was not functioning as a real website anymore. When people would visit DateHookup.com, they got redirected to a Match.com login or join page. Remember that InterActiveCorp owned both websites, so perhaps they were trying to funnel traffic to their more successful website. In fact, DateHookup was not advertised all that much after Match Group took it over.

Meanwhile, its competitors were constantly updating their dating websites and apps to include new features. DateHookup did not receive any updates like this on its platform. As a result, an increasing number of its members left the service and went somewhere else. On May 9th, 2018, DateHookup officially shut down its service for good.

Fortunately, there are several alternative dating hookup websites which are just as good as that was. These dating services are regularly updated and current, so you are bound to find good matches on them.
